The Fort Hays State men's basketball team defeated Bethany College on Tuesday evening (Nov. 13) at Gross Memorial Coliseum by a score of 84-44. The Tigers moved to 2-0 overall with the win.
The Tigers opened the game on a 17-2 run and had no troubles from that point, eventually leading 44-17 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Swedes 40-27 in the second half.
FHSU finished 45.9 percent from the field in the game and 47.4 percent beyond the 3-point line. The Tigers buried nine 3-point field goals in the game, led by
Ben Congiusta with three. The Tigers held Bethany to 30 percent shooting overall, including just 23.1 percent beyond the 3-point line.
Dwayne Brunson dominated on the inside with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. He went 8-of-13 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free-throw line. Congiusta finished with 13 points and
Rundell Mauge also reached double figures with 10 points.
Lance Russell and Mauge nearly had double-doubles, as Russell finished with seven points and nine rebounds and Mauge had eight rebounds to go with his 10 points.
Nick Capiti had a team-high nine assists.
FHSU had its second straight game of reaching double figures in steals as a team with 11. Bethany turned the ball over 20 times on the evening, which led to 29 points for FHSU.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday (Nov. 17) at Gross Memorial Coliseum at 4 pm against Northwestern Oklahoma State in another non-conference match-up.
