Box Score The Fort Hays State women's basketball team shot over 50 percent in a 93-53 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday (Nov. 17) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. The win ups the Tigers' record to 3-0 on the season.
An early 3-0 score was the only time the Rangers held the lead over the Tigers as FHSU went on a 23-0 run and opened up a 23-3 lead with 10:35 left in the first half. The Tigers controlled play in the rest of the first half, taking a 48-26 advantage into halftime.
Fort Hays State went on another run early in the second half, pushing the margin to 34 points at 66-32 with a 14-2 run. The largest lead by the Tigers was 44 points, 86-42, and came with 4:56 left. From there, FHSU closed out the game for a 93-53 score.
Sophomore
Kate Lehman led the Tigers with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field and added six rebounds and four blocks in only 20 minutes of action.
Melissa Nelson totaled 15 points, and
Katelyn Edwards also hit double figures with 14 points. Edwards grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
The Tigers were red hot in the second half, shooting 65.2 percent (15-23), and FHSU was above 50 percent at 50.9 percent (29-57) in the game.
The defense kept the Rangers under 40 percent at 38.5 percent and 28.6 percent from 3-point range. Titania Simmons scored a team-high 17 points for the Rangers.
The Tigers scored 33 points off 27 NWOSU turnovers, including 20 points in the first half, while the Rangers scored six points off 11 FHSU turnovers. The Tigers also held advantage in fast break points (17-0) and points in the paint (50-32).
Fort Hays State ends its four-game homestand on Tuesday (Nov. 20) with a 7 p.m. game against Newman at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
