The Fort Hays State men's basketball team plays its first road game of the 2012-13 season on Saturday (Nov. 24) at Newman University in Wichita, Kan. Game time is set for 4 pm at Fugate Gymnasium. Fort Hays State enters with a record of 2-1, while Newman is still unbeaten at 3-0.
Fort Hays State holds an 18-game win streak over Newman. The Tigers defeated the Jets last year in Hays by a score of 75-65. Newman's last win over Fort Hays State was in 1981-82 by a score of 75-69 in Hays. FHSU has won the last nine meetings in Wichita.
This will be a stiff test for Fort Hays State as Newman has shown constant improvement year-to-year since joining NCAA Division II a few years back. The Jets topped Pittsburg State this past Tuesday in Pittsburg to stay unbeaten for the season.
Dwayne Brunson is leading the Tigers in scoring at 18.3 points per game and rebounding at 8.7 rebounds per game.
Craig Nicholson is the team leader in assists with 5.3 per game, followed closely by
Nick Capiti at 5.0 per game.
Ben Congiusta (14.3) and
Lance Russell (10.3) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
Rundell Mauge leads the Tigers in blocked shots per game (2.3) and adds 7.0 rebounds per game.
