The Fort Hays State women's basketball team looks to stay unbeaten in non-conference play this weekend when it plays at the 2012 Capitol Plaza Thanksgiving Classic in Topeka, Kan. on the campus of Washburn University. FHSU faces Arkansas Tech on Friday and Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 pm from Lee Arena.
The Lady Tigers enter the weekend at 4-0 overall. FHSU defeated Newman on Tuesday in Hays to move to 2-0 against NCAA Division II opponents this season. These games are non-conference Division II games and Arkansas Tech is an in-region opponent as members of the Great American Conference. These are also the first games for FHSU away from Gross Memorial Coliseum this year.
Both teams the Tigers face also enter the weekend undefeated. Arkansas Tech is currently 1-0, while Texas-Permian Basin is 4-0. Both schools have never faced Fort Hays State in women's basketball.
The Lady Tigers are led in scoring by
Kate Lehman at 20.0 points per game. She is also averaging a team-leading 4.8 blocked shots per game. She is second in rebounding at 7.5 per game.
Katelyn Edwards is the team leader in rebounds at 8.5 per game and she is the only other Lady Tiger averaging double figures in scoring at 12.3 points per game. She also averages a team-best 3.8 assists per game.
The game on Friday can be heard on Mix 103.3 FM (KJLS) as usual, but the game on Saturday will be carried on 1400 AM (KAYS) due to the men's game at Newman occurring simultaneously on Mix 103.3 FM at the same time.
