The Fort Hays State men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday night (Nov. 28) when it hosts Central Christian (Kan.) College at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Game time is set for 7 pm. The Tigers enter the game at 2-2 overall, while Central Christian is 9-0 and ranked No. 22 in NAIA Division II.
Fort Hays State is looking to snap a two-game losing skid in which both losses were by just two points. FHSU was knocked off by Northwestern Oklahoma State 70-68 back on November 17 at home, then fell to Newman 80-78 this past Saturday in Wichita.
Fort Hays State holds an 11-0 edge over Central Christian in the all-time series. Ten of those wins have been under head coach
Mark Johnson. Central Christian does have a loss this year to Emporia State by 14 points, but Central Christian can count it as exhibition since it's against a NCAA school. It will do the same against Fort Hays State, so Central Christian will still technically be unbeaten when it leaves Hays even though the game counts for FHSU.
Dwayne Brunson leads the Tigers averaging a double-double of 18.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He recorded his third-straight double-double in the loss to Newman with 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.
Lance Russell scored a career-high 23 points in the game and is now averaging 13.5 per game. He is tied as the second-highest rebounder on the team with
Rundell Mauge, each averaging 6.3 per game.
Ben Congiusta (12.3) and
Craig Nicholson (10.0) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
This is the final tune-up for FHSU before it enters MIAA play next week against Central Missouri on Wednesday.
