The Fort Hays State men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday night (Dec. 15) at Oklahoma-Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla. The game marks the start of a three-game non-conference stretch for the Tigers, which enter the game at 5-2 overall. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse.
Fort Hays State enters on a three-game win streak. FHSU jumped out to a 2-0 start in conference play last week with wins over Central Missouri and Missouri Western. The Tigers are 3-2 in non-conference play so far. They return to MIAA play on January 3.
This is the seventh time the Tigers will play Oklahoma-Panhandle State under head coach
Mark Johnson. FHSU is 5-1 against OPSU under coach Johnson, with the only loss occurring in 2004-05 in the season opener. The Tigers bounced back later that year to defeat the Aggies in Hays. That is the last time the teams met. Fort Hays State holds a 20-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Dwayne Brunson continues to lead FHSU in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
Lance Russell is second in those categories at 13.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Also averaging double figures in scoring are
Ben Congiusta (12.6) and
Craig Nicholson (12.4). Nicholson is the MIAA leader in assists at 6.4 per game.
Oklahoma-Panhandle State enters the game at 4-5 overall have scored the ball at a high rate this year. The Aggies are averaging 85.3 points per game, but their defense has been an issue allowing 82.3 points per game. They have five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Damar Hill at 12.2 points per game.
