The Fort Hays State men's basketball team extended its win streak to five games with an 80-49 win over Sterling College on Monday evening (Dec. 17) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. The Tigers moved to 7-2 overall with the win.
Sterling hung around for a good portion of the first half before the Tigers took a double-digit lead with 2:05 remaining in the first half. The lead grew to 13 by halftime.
The Tigers went on a 24-8 run to open the second half and push their lead to 29 with 9:04 remaining. They outscored the Warriors by 18 in the second half, 40-22, to pull away for the 31-point win.
Craig Nicholson led a balanced scoring effort for FHSU with 11 points. He also added a team-high eight assists.
Dwayne Brunson,
Ben Congiusta, and
Carson Konrade all added 10 points.
Rundell Mauge pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and added eight points.
The Tigers finished the game at 48.3 percent from the field (29-of-60) and 41.2 percent (7-of-17) beyond the 3-point line. They were 78.9 percent from the free-throw line (15-of-19). Sterling was held to 30.4 percent from the field and 23.8 percent beyond the 3-point line.
The Tigers take nearly two weeks off before returning to action on Saturday, December 29, when they host South Dakota School of Mines at 4 pm.
