The Fort Hays State men's basketball team, fresh off a five-point win over Central Missouri in its MIAA opener on Wednesday, heads to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western on Saturday (Dec. 8). Game time is set for 3:30 pm at the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Tigers are 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the MIAA, while the Griffons are 4-3 overall, 0-1 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State has a four-game win streak against Missouri Western, dating back to 2010-11. The Tigers took both regular season meetings with the Griffons last year. FHSU won the last meeting between the teams 62-58 in St. Joseph. The last time the Griffons beat the Tigers was a one-point win in St. Joesph in 2010-11. Missouri Western fell in its MIAA opener on Wednesday at home against Truman.
Dwayne Brunson continues to lead the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Lance Russell is second on the team in both categories at 13.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Craig Nicholson leads the MIAA in assists per game with 5.8 per contest and also averages double figures in scoring at 11.7 points per game.
Ben Congiusta leads the team in 3-point field goals made and averages 12.0 points per game.
This will be the last MIAA game for the Tigers before January, as they have three more non-conference games to close out December following the game Saturday.
