The Fort Hays State women's basketball team dropped their third consecutive first round game at the MIAA Tournament, falling to Central Missouri 73-61 on Thursday afternoon (March 1) at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
Fort Hays State led by as many as seven late in the first half and took a 33-29 lead to the break, but UCM started the second half on an 11-1 run and would not look back. Traci Keyser and
Kimber Weiser each scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Keyser broke out of her shooting slump by hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers, but she was just 1-of-4 from the free throw line after hitting 88% for the season coming into the game. Weiser was 3-of-9 from long range and hit all four of her free throw attempts.
Kate Lehman was held without a basket until there was 7:11 to play in the game and she finished with nine points and just one rebound. FHSU's leading scorer,
Katelyn Edwards was also held far below her season averages, finishing with five points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Tigers, who were unranked in the latest South Central Region Rankings, finish the season with a record of 20-9. They accomplished their first 20-win season since joining the MIAA in 2006-07 and had their best conference record (12-8) in that span as well.
