The No. 11 Tiger men's soccer team plays two road matches this weekend, traveling to Southern Nazarene on Friday (Sept. 14) for a 7 p.m. tilt and No. 13 West Texas A&M on Sunday (Sept. 16) for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
The Tigers, 4-0 on the season, open the MIAA schedule with a trip to Bethany, Okla. to play MIAA Associate Member Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm is 0-5 this season, falling to West Texas, A&M, Drury, Delta State, Incarnate Word and Oklahoma City. Southern Nazarene has totaled three goals this season. Hajime Chumpitaz, Daniel Hernandez and Javier Caballeros all have scores this season. Devante Parker leads Southern Nazarene with two assists. Blake Anderson has made all five starts in goal, allowing 3.15 goals a game with a .485 save percentage. He has 15 saves and allowed 16 goals.
No. 13 West Texas A&M is 4-0-1 with wins over Southern Nazarene, St. Mary's, Dallas Baptist and Colorado Mines. The tie is against Regis, which is ranked No. 19. Senior Dominic Furness leads the Buffs offense with nine goals, including four in the win against St. Mary's. Colin Bjostad adds three goals, while Carl Prestidge has a team-high four assists. William Cooper has started all five games as the goalkeeper, allowing 1.01 goals a game with a .667 save percentage.
No. 11 Fort Hays State is 4-0 for the first time in its short two year history.
Daniel Peralta and
Tomas Mares lead the Tigers with four and three goals, respectively. Peralta has three game winners, while Mares has one.
Tanner Brock has a team-high two assists.
Ryan Pakieser has started three of the four games in goal, allowing 1.33 goals a game with a .750 save percentage. He has allowed four goals and made 12 saves.
The showdown between No. 11 FHSU and No. 13 WTAMU is the first matchup with both teams ranked for FHSU. Last season, the Tigers played one ranked opponent, No. 1 Simon Fraser. The Tigers and Buffs played twice last season with each team winning on the road for the 1-1 series tie.
After this weekend, the Tigers return to Hays for six-straight home matches.
