Fresh off their first win over a top 25 opponent, No. 15 Fort Hays State men's soccer team looks to continue its early season success with a home match against Harding on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 1 p.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers, 6-1 and 2-0 in the MIAA, defeated No. 20 Northeastern State, 3-2, on Thursday (Sept. 20) on a double overtime goal by
Tomas Mares, his second of the match.
Michael Cole scored the 2-2 equalizer to force overtime.
Mares and
Daniel Peralta led the Tigers with five goals through the first seven games.
Diego Cabral, an All-American a season ago, is third with four goals.
Michael Cole adds three goals to the Tiger offensive attack. With two assists against NSU,
Tanner Brock has a team-high four assists on the season. Goalkeeper
Kent Freund is 2-0 after he picked up the win against the Riverhawks.
Ryan Pakieser has a 4-1 record in goal for the Tigers as the duo has split time.
Harding is 3-3 and 1-1 in the MIAA. The Bison defeated Southern Nazarene (2-0), Ouachita Baptist (2-0) and Williams Baptist College (2-1), while losing to John Brown (2-1), Lyon College (4-0) and Northeastern State (3-1). Harding's offense is balanced with seven Bison tallying goals. Ian Park leads Harding with two goals. Shea McGee and Ryan Wilhelm tie for the team high in assists with two. Chase Keeney has made four of the six starts in goal for the Bison, totaling a 3-2 record and two shutouts. He allows 1.03 goals a game with a .783 save percentage.
After the Harding tilt, the Tigers welcome Lindenwood to Hays for a September 27 match at 7 p.m. It's the third straight home match of six straight home matches for FHSU.
