Box Score The No. 13-ranked Fort Hays State men's soccer team scored two late goals to defeat Sioux Falls, 3-1, on Friday night (Sept. 7) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium on day one of the Days Inn/FHSU Classic.
Daniel Peralta scored what would be the game winner, his team-high third goal of the season, in the 72nd minute on a free kick just outside the box after a USF hand ball.
Michael Cole knocked in the insurance goal eight minutes later in the 80th minute to put the Tigers up 3-1. Cole kicked in a deflected shot from
Diego Cabral.
Cabral started the scoring for FHSU, finding the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 20th minute of the first half. After the first 45 minutes, the score remained 1-0.
The Cougars tallied the equalizer early in the second half in the 52nd minute to tie the score at 1-1 before the two late Tiger goals.
Ryan Pakieser went all 90 minutes in goal, allowing the one goal and making three saves. He upped his record to 3-0 on the season.
Fort Hays State dominated in shots, outshooting the Cougars 25-4, including a 13-3 margin in shots on goal.
The No. 13 Tigers are now 3-0 on the season and play Colorado Mesa on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the final game of the Days Inn/FHSU Classic. The Mavericks defeated No. 20 Northeastern State, 3-2, in overtime in the first game today (Sept. 7) of the Days Inn/FHSU Classic. Northeastern and Sioux Falls start Sunday with a 10 a.m. matchup.
