The Fort Hays State men's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing skid when it plays at Truman in Kirksville, Mo. on Saturday (Jan. 26). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 pm at Pershing Arena. Fort Hays State enters at 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the MIAA, while Truman is 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the MIAA.
The Tigers are coming off a 69-58 loss at Lindenwood on Thursday evening. The 58 points was a season low for FHSU and was just the second game the Tigers lost by more than three points this year. Fort Hays State has won the last nine meetings with Truman, sweeping the regular season home/away series four consecutive years from the 2008-09 season to the 2011-12 season. Even though a few have been difficult wins, the Tigers have won five straight in Kirksville. The teams meet just once this year in the regular season.
Truman is 3-4 since the start of January and is coming off a one-point win over Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday evening in Kirksville. Tom Norton hit a shot to lift the Bulldogs with under 10 seconds remaining in the game. Truman is just 4-7 in its home building this year, yet 3-2 on the road.
Dwayne Brunson leads FHSU in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. He is averaging 14.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.4 blocked shots per game. He is leading the MIAA in blocked shots per game. Three others are also averaging double figures in scoring, which includes
Lance Russell (13.9),
Ben Congiusta (13.6), and
Craig Nicholson (12.9). Nicholson continues to lead the MIAA in assists per game (6.8).
Mike Carlson leads Truman in scoring at 16.6 points per game, followed by Tom Norton at 13.9 and Seth Jackson at 10.7.
