The Fort Hays State women's basketball team looks to bounce back after its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5) when it plays at Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. Game time is set for 1:30 pm. Fort Hays State is looking to snap a 14-game losing streak against the Hornets. FHSU enters at 10-1 overall, 2-1 in the MIAA, while ESU enters at 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the MIAA.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a loss at Northeastern State on Thursday evening in Tahlequah, Okla., which snapped the best regular season start in school history for the FHSU women. Northeastern State started the year in the preseason national rankings, but fell out in the first regular season poll. Emporia State also started the year in the national rankings, but fell out after being ranked in the preseason and two regular season polls. Fort Hays State is looking for its first win in Emporia since 1994-95.

Kate Lehman continues to lead FHSU in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots. She is averaging 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.3 blocked shots per game. Katelyn Edwards is also scoring and rebounding at a high rate at 13.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Both Lehman and Edwards have four double-doubles in points and rebounds this year. Edwards has reached double figures in scoring in every game this year. The Tigers have 10 players averaging at least 3.0 points per game.

Emporia State has lost four of its last six games, which included a non-conference game at No. 6 ranked Washburn on Wednesday. It was non-conference since Washburn and Emporia State are not in the same 5-team pod in the MIAA and their conference meeting will be later in the year.
