The Fort Hays State women's basketball team hosts Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 2) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Tipoff is set for 2 pm. Fort Hays State looks for its third straight win at home and enters at 13-5 overall, 5-5 in the MIAA, while Missouri Southern enters at 10-8 overall, 4-6 in the MIAA.
The Lady Tigers look to keep pace with the upper half of the conference as they enter the game tied for eighth in the standings. However, they are just a game back of sixth and a game and a half back of fifth in the conference standings with eight games to play. The top four teams in the conference get an automatic bye to Kansas City for the quarterfinals of the 12-team MIAA tournament, while seeds 5-8 will host first round games that determine the other four teams that make it to Kansas City.
Missouri Southern comes into this game on a five-game losing streak after starting the year 10-3 overall. Most recently, the Lions fell by a score of 53-42 at Washburn on Thursday. The last win for MSSU was on January 12 at Lincoln.
Kate Lehman continues to lead FHSU in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. She averages 15.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 4.2 blocked shots per game. She is still leading NCAA Division II in blocked shots per game.
Katelyn Edwards is averaging 13.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and leads the team in assists with 2.8 per game.
Erin Rice is the leading scorer for Missouri Southern at 8.9 points per game. Dominique Mosley is right behind at 8.6 per game. The Lions are very balanced in scoring with eight players averaging at least five points per game.
