Fort Hays State travels to Topeka, Kan. to face Washburn on Saturday (Feb. 23) at Lee Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 pm. Fort Hays State is currently tied for the MIAA lead with Central Missouri at 11-4 and Washburn is just a game back of both at 10-5. Both FHSU and WU enter the game at 17-6 overall.
Washburn edged FHSU in Hays earlier this year by a score of 70-69. Fort Hays State was referenced eighth in the first Central Region Rankings of the season on Wednesday, but Washburn is not in the first set of regional rankings. Fort Hays State and Central Missouri are the only two schools from the MIAA currently in the regional rankings. Washburn has won the last four meetings with FHSU after taking all three last year.
Dwayne Brunson, coming off a career-high 35 points at Nebraska-Kearney, continues to lead FHSU at 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.2 blocked shots per game. Also averaging double figures in scoring are
Lance Russell (14.3),
Craig Nicholson (13.7) and
Ben Congiusta (12.0). Nicholson continues to lead the MIAA in assists at 7.2 per game and ranks second in the nation.
