FHSU Defeats Lincoln 91-66; Lady Tigers Host First-Round MIAA Tourney Game

Fort Hays State posted its second straight 20-win season under head coach Tony Hobson with a 91-66 win over Lincoln on Friday night (Mar. 1) in Hays. The Lady Tigers finish the regular season at 20-6 overall, 12-6 in the MIAA. Fort Hays State will wait to see what seed it receives in the MIAA Tournament based on the outcomes of other games around the conference on Saturday, FHSU for sure it will host an opening round game. The opponent is still to be determined as well.

The Lady Tigers steadily pulled out to a 24-point lead in the first half and eventually led by 20 at halftime, 45-25. The lead never dropped below 18 points in the second half. Fort Hays State's largest lead was 32 points with 5:55 remaining.

Fort Hays State shot 49.2 percent from the field overall, which included a 52.9 percent effort in the first half. The Lady Tigers were 45 percent beyond the 3-point line (9-of-20). FHSU held Lincoln to 40.6 percent shooting overall and just 30.8 percent beyond the 3-point line.

Kate Lehman led FHSU with her ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The nation's leading shot blocker added six to her collection, while going 9-of-14 from the field and 3-of-6 at the free-throw line. Seniors Traci Keyser and Melissa Nelson both had a productive Senior Night, Keyser with 14 points with four 3-point field goals and Nelson with 10 points. Taylor Chandler added 12 points.

Arriana Walker was the only Lincoln player to reach double figures in scoring with 21 points. She also added a team-high six assists.

Watch for what seed the Lady Tigers receive on Saturday evening following completion of games around the conference. Fort Hays State hosts the first-round game on Tuesday night (Mar. 5) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City.
