Tiger football travels to Washburn University this Saturday (Sept. 14) for the first road contest of the 2013 season. The Tigers are looking to bounce back from a 43-13 loss to Emporia State this past week in the season opener. Game time is set for 6 pm at Yager Stadium in Topeka.

Washburn has defeated Fort Hays State in each of the last four meetings between the schools. Fort Hays State's last win was in 2008 in Hays. The Tigers have lost the last six meetings with Washburn in Topeka. They have yet to defeat the Ichabods in Topeka since joining the MIAA in 2006. Washburn won the last two meetings both by the count of 45-20.

Washburn is receiving votes in the latest NFCA national poll and is No. 23 in the latest D2Football.com poll.

The Fort Hays State offense sputtered in the first week against Emporia State, gaining just 207 yards with only nine first downs. The Tigers had the ball for just 20:28, the shortest amount of time by any MIAA school in the first week of play.

Justin McPhail was a bright spot on defense in week one for the Tigers, recording 14 tackles. He had just nine total in 2012 as a true freshman. Basil Bandy and Shane Smith also reached double figures in tackles with 10 each.
