Men's Soccer battles Southwest Baptist, Harding in weekend road games

No. 25 Fort Hays State hits the road for two conference games this weekend, taking on Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m., on Thursday (Oct. 16) before facing Harding in a Saturday (Oct. 18) contest at 1 p.m.

The Tigers (8-3-1, 5-2-0 MIAA) have won six straight, with four shutouts and a 29-5 scoring advantage during that stretch.  FHSU has defeated both SBU and HU this season, picking up a 5-0 win over the Beracats on Sept. 27 before a 4-0 win against the Bison earlier this month.

Five players have hit double-digit in points this season, with Diego Cabral's 16 points pacing the squad.  Cabral has four goals and a team-high eight assists on the season, including an MIAA and school record breaking five-assist performance against Southern Nazarene last Saturday.

Tanner Brock is second on the team with 14 points, all of which came in the previous six games.  Brock is tied for the team lead in goals (five) with Maurizio Costa, and has added four assists.

Costa put together a hat trick with three goals against SNU last weekend, and has one assist for the year.  Costa and Michael Cole (four goals, three assists) each have 11 points, while Austin Clifton (three goals, four assists) has 10 points.

Eric Hymer and Drew Wilson have each passed the 1,000 minute mark for the year to lead the team, and have anchored a defense that has allowed just 13 goals and limited opponents to a .084 shot percentage.

Goalkeeper Kent Freund has a 7-2-1 record for FHSU and has compiled four shutouts for the year.  Freund has 36 saves and a 1.14 goals against average in the net.

SBU (0-12-0, 0-7-0 MIAA) is led offensively by Justin Schaeffer, who has 11 points with five goals and one assist for the year.  Ryan Estus and Kyler Moore each have two goals.  Lajos Zadravecz has started eight games between the pipes for the Bearcats, allowing 36 goals (4.79 per game) with 44 saves.

HU (2-5-2, 2-3-1 MIAA) has scored 14 goals as a team this season, five of which have come from Jacob Stevens, who has 11 points with one assist.  Cole Walker is second on the squad with three goals and one assist (seven points), while Dylan Sherrill's five points (two goals, one assist) is third.  In goal, Tyler Melson and Thomas Shults have split time.  Melson has allowed 1.77 goals per game with 19 saves, while Shults has given up 13 goals (2.36 per game) with 20 saves.
