Tigers Win Third Straight; Run Past Bethany 95-52

Fort Hays State men's basketball moved to 7-3 overall on Tuesday evening (Dec. 16) with a 95-52 win over Bethany College in Hays. The Tigers ran their win streak to three games before entering back into MIAA play this Saturday.

Bethany kept the game close for about the first nine minutes before FHSU used a 12-0 run sparked by a 3-point field goal and dunk on consecutive trips down the floor by Jared Tadlock. FHSU took a 28-14 lead with 9:33 to go in the opening half, then later used an 8-0 burst to push a 19-point lead to 27 with 2:20 on the clock. FHSU led by 25 at halftime, 49-24.

Leading by 29 with 11:57 remaining, the Tigers used a 10-0 burst to push the lead to 39 points with 9:04 to go. It reached 40 points by the 7:53 mark and eventually the biggest lead of 47 points with 1:29 remaining, before resting at the final margin of 43.

Achoki Moikobu was near perfect from beyond the 3-point line, 5-of-6, while adding a 2-of-2 effort at the free-throw line to tie for a team-high 17 points. Tadlock matched Moikobu in points, going 6-of-10 from the field with a 3-of-4 effort beyond the 3-point line and a 2-of-2 night at the charity stripe.

Jake Stoppel had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, after having eight of each in the first half. He was perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line. Dom Samac also reached double figures with 10 points. Craig Nicholson led the Tigers in assists with seven. The Tigers shot 50.7 percent from the field and 47.6 percent beyond the 3-point line (10-of-21). The Tigers were sharp at the free-throw line, hitting at an 88.2 percent clip (15-of-17).

Gary Jones had the hot hand for Bethany, scoring 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and a 4-of-7 effort at the free-throw line. Brandon Huskey added 11 points. Bethany was held to 37.5 percent shooting overall and just 16.7 percent beyond the 3-point line. The Swedes struggled at the free-throw line as well at just 50 percent (7-of-14).

The Tigers, 1-1 in MIAA play, get back to work in the conference on Saturday (Dec. 20) at Northwest Missouri State before the two-week holiday break. Game time is set for 3:30 pm in Maryville, Mo.
