Women's Basketball falls to Washburn on the road, 74-65

Box Score Fort Hays State women's basketball dropped its third straight game on Wednesday (Feb. 19), falling to Washburn, 74-65, in Topeka, Kan.

FHSU is now 16-7 (9-7 MIAA) while Washburn moves to 16-8 (11-6 MIAA).  FHSU, which shot 33.3 percent from the field, remains sixth in the MIAA standings with three games to go.

Kate Lehman posted her fourth consecutive double-double on the evening, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks, while Jill Faxon added 15 points.

Beth Bohuslavsky and Nikola Kacperska each had three steals defensively, as Bohuslavsky pulled down six rebounds and five points.

Fort Hays State opened the game on 5-0 run, but soon found itself playing from behind as WU followed with 14-0 run of its own.  The Ichabods would lead by as many as 14 just past the midpoint of the first half (22-8), but with 5:38 to go, a layup from Keriann Shaw started a 14-5 Tiger run that cut the lead to one (34-33) at the break.  Part of that run included six points apiece from Faxon and Mason.

Mason led the Tigers with 11 points at the half, shooting 3-of-7 from long range.  Mason finished with 13 points total.

Both teams played back and forth ball for much of the second half, before Faxon's layup with 10:10 remaining in the game gave FHSU its first lead since 13:28 in the first half.  Washburn, though, answered with a 3-pointer to regain control.

With 5:37 to go in the game, Mason's layup put Fort Hays State ahead, 57-56, but the Ichabods followed with a 9-0 run that the Tigers couldn't recover from.  Down eight with just over three minutes remaining, two free throws from Bohuslavsky pulled the Tigers to back within six, but that was as close as FHSU could climb the rest of the way.
