Fort Hays State and Newman will square off in Hays on Tuesday night (Nov. 24) in a battle of unbeaten teams on the young season at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Both teams enter the game at 3-0 overall. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
The Tigers have two non-conference games this week before entering MIAA play next week. Newman will be the first of the two contests this week before a meeting with Sterling College on Saturday. Newman will be the third NCAA Division II opponent of the season for FHSU. The Tigers won a pair of games over NSIC foes Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls in the first weekend of the season.
All three of Newman's wins have been over Division II competition, including one MIAA school. The Jets posted a pair of wins in the first weekend of the season over Cameron University and Texas A&M-Commerce of the Lone Star Conference, and then defeated Pittsburg State last week by nine points.
James Pegues leads Newman in scoring at 20.3 points per game, while Jalen Love (18.3), Jarvis Williams (16.7), Gavin Thurman (11.7), and Cortrael Colbert (11.7) are all in double figures.
Dom Samac leads FHSU in scoring and rebounding at 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Rob Davis (12.7),
Jake Stoppel (10.7), and
Craig Nicholson (10.3) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
