Fort Hays State enters Saturday (Dec. 12) in search of its first conference win of the season when it hosts Nebraska-Kearney at 4 pm. The Tigers enter the game at 6-2 overall, but 0-2 in the MIAA, while UNK has a 4-4 overall record and 1-2 record in MIAA play.
Fans are encouraged to wear black on Saturday for "Blackout the Coliseum". FHSU Athletics is holding a canned food drive during the event. Bring a canned food item and receive a $5 ticket to the games.
The Tigers completed a perfect run through its non-conference slate on Monday by defeating York College 86-76. The win snapped a two-game losing streak, which occurred against Washburn and Emporia State last week. This will be the first of two meetings with the Lopers this year.
Dom Samac leads the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Rob Davis also averages double figures in scoring at 14.8 points per game, while
Jake Stoppel is just shy at 9.9 per game. FHSU leads the MIAA in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.0 percent.
Connor Beranek of Nebraska-Kearney is the top scorer in the MIAA at 24.8 points per game. He has scored at least 20 points is six of UNK's eight games this year, including a pair of 30+ efforts. His season high is 39 points, which he produced in the season opener against Southern Nazarene. Ethan Brozek (15.0) and Trey Lansman (12.9) also double figures in scoring for UNK.
