Fort Hays State women's basketball hosts Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday (Dec. 12) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Game time is set for 2 pm. The No. 1 ranked Tigers enter the game at 8-0 overall, 2-0 in the MIAA, while the Lopers are 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.
Fans are encouraged to wear black on Saturday for "Blackout the Coliseum". FHSU Athletics is holding a canned food drive during the event. Bring a canned food item and receive a $5 ticket to the games.
Fort Hays State is ranked No. 1 nationally in the WBCA Poll for the first time in program history. The Tigers knocked off previous No. 1 ranked Emporia State last Saturday by a score of 71-70. With the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams also losing last week, FHSU vaulted from No. 5 in the national rankings to No. 1.
Beth Bohuslavsky leads the Tigers in scoring at 12.9 points per game, fresh off MIAA Women's Basketball Co-Athlete of the Week honors. Three others average double figures in scoring, which includes
Chelsea Mason (12.1),
Jill Faxon (11.3), and
Paige Lunsford (10.0). Lunsford leads the team in rebounding at 4.9 per game, while Bohuslavsky leads in assists at 3.3 per game.
Nebraska-Kearney is 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA. The Lopers are coached by former Tiger assistant coach
Carrie Hofstetter. Hofstetter was the head coach at Hastings College for three years before taking over at Nebraska-Kearney this year.
