No. 3 Ranked Tigers Cruise to 68-41 Win at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State pushed its win streak to four games by cruising to a 68-41 win over Lincoln University on Saturday (Jan. 9). The No. 3 ranked Tigers jumped out to a 40-17 lead by halftime and cruised from that point to a 27-point win, moving to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the MIAA.
 
The Tigers shot 43.2 percent and forced 14 turnovers in the first half on their way to the 23-point halftime lead. FHSU eventually forced a total of 22 turnovers out of Lincoln, while committing just 12. FHSU was also tenacious on the offensive glass, pulling down 18 offensive rebounds. With 18 extra opportunities and a turnover margin of +10, the Tigers attempted 20 more shots in the game than Lincoln.
 
FHSU finished at just 39.2 percent from the field for the game, which included a 14.8 percent effort beyond the 3-point line. FHSU was also just 46.2 percent at the free-throw line. But, the Tiger defense held Lincoln to just 27.8 percent shooting, including an 18.2 percent effort beyond the 3-point line.
 
Jill Faxon recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Mason led the Tigers with 17 points, while Paige Lunsford added 11. Elle Stein pulled down nine rebounds and Nikola Kacperska had a team-high four assists.
 
Azaria Nave was the only Lincoln (6-9, 2-7 MIAA) player to score in double figures with 19 points. She also had a team-high eight rebounds.
 
The Tigers return to Hays for a pair of home games this coming week. FHSU hosts Northeastern State on Thursday (Jan. 14) and Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Jan. 16).
