FHSU Men Host Super Regional; Face Lindenwood in Regional Championship Friday Night

The 16th-ranked Fort Hays State men's soccer team looks for its third-consecutive Central Regional Championship on Friday night (Nov. 18) when it hosts Lindenwood in the regional finals at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The Midwest Championship match will precede the FHSU-Lindenwood match at 4 pm with Rockhurst facing Drury. The winners of the two matches square off on Sunday (Nov. 20) at 1 pm to determine which team heads to the national semifinals in Kansas City.
 
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Tigers have made the NCAA Tournament. The meeting between the Tigers and the Lions will be the third of the season. Each have taken a match this year as Lindenwood won in Hays 3-2 before FHSU won in St. Charles 2-0. Entering Friday's match, the Tigers are 13-4-1 on the year while the Lions, ranked No. 20 in the nation, are 13-3-2.
 
The Tigers put together a great run to the end of the season going 11-2 in their final 13 matches. During that stretch the Tigers have been on an offensive tear, outscoring opponents 42-11. The Tigers averaged 3.2 goals per match in that stretch.
 
Leading the Tiger offense is Maurizio Costa, who has a team-leading 24 points with eight goals and eight assists. Derick Gonzalez leads the team in goals with 10, while chipping in two assists for 22 points. Mauricio Castorino has been the top table setter for the Tigers, leading the team with 10 assists.
 
Leading the charge for Lindenwood is the D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year Xhovani Dokaj. He is tied for 12th in the nation in goals with 16. Add in his five assists and he has 37 points, which ranks 16th in the nation. Next in line for the Lions is Thomas Hutcheson with eight goals and five assists.
