Fort Hays State Men's Basketball continues non-conference play on Tuesday night (Nov. 22) at Newman University in Wichita, Kan. The Tigers enter at 2-2 overall, while the Jets are 1-3 overall. Game time is set for 7 pm at Fugate Gymnasium.
The Tigers are looking to bounce back from a tough loss to No. 21 ranked Colorado Mines in Hays this past Saturday. The Orediggers banked in a 3-point shot at the buzzer to break a tie and avoid overtime. Fort Hays State's two losses are to teams still undefeated, Southwest Minnesota State (5-0) and Colorado Mines (4-0).
Fort Hays State has won the past three meetings with Newman in a series that has been played every year going back to the 2007-08 season. FHSU is 8-1 against Newman in that stretch with the only loss by two points back in the 2012-13 season in Wichita.
Rob Davis continues to pour in the points for FHSU averaging 24.8 per game. He has scored at least 20 in the last three games. With back-to-back games of at least 30 points against Sioux Falls (33) and Central Christian (35), Davis became the first FHSU player to accomplish that feat since the 1996-97 season when Alonzo Goldston put together consecutive games of 30 and 32 points in the postseason.
Hadley Gillum has reached double figures in scoring in all four games this year and is averaging 17 points per game. He has reached a career-high 20 points twice this season.
JaQuan Smith is leading the team in rebounding at 7.5 per game and
Kyler Kinnamon leads in assists at 3.5 per game.
Newman picked up its first win of the season this past Friday with a six-point win over Manhattan Christian. The Jets are 0-3 against NCAA Division II competition so far this year with losses to Cameron, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Pittsburg State.
