Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stoddard, Hirsch Lead Tigers to Third-Consecutive MIAA Victory

Eden Stoddard accounted for her eighth goal of the season as she anchored the Fort Hays State offense to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 win over Southwest Baptist. The Tigers crawl to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-0 in MIAA play, as they Bearcats drop to 2-11-1 and winless in conference at 0-6.

Fort Hays State struck first in the match as Darby Hirsch captured a quick goal less than five minutes into the contest. Jasmine Beaulieu found Hirsch on the left side as Hirsch netted her third goal of the season from 20 yards out, sweeping past Ashlynn Gibbs in net for the Bearcats. The lead wouldn't hold for too long as the Bearcats struck from the right side. Brooke Herald also captured her third goal of the season as she brought in the pass from Laura Manuel to tie up the match at 1-1 twelve minutes through the match.

The first half scoring wasn't over yet as Stoddard caught a double-assist goal off the feet of Catalina Hernandez and Zariah Smith as she beat the keeper on the left side of the goal to put the Tigers back on top at 2-1 in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Tigers did, however, outshoot the Bearcats in the final period 8-2, with a nearly double shot attack in the match as 13-7 over Southwest Baptist. The final score would stand at 2-1 giving the Tigers their fifth MIAA victory and third-straight win.

Kristen Thompson earned her fifth victory in goal for Fort Hays State as she improves to 5-1-0 in her position after taking off the past four matches. Thompson captured five saves in the match, increasing her season total to 54. Gibbs falls to 2-8-1 for the Bearcats in goal, as she accounted for seven saves.

The Tigers are back in action at home on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m. as they face off against a 2-8-2 Missouri Southern squad. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two MIAA programs.
