Tigers Get Set to Face Upper Iowa and Lindenwood this Weekend

The Fort Hays State men's soccer team looks to stay atop the conference standings as they host Upper Iowa and Lindenwood in Hays this weekend. The first match pits the Tigers and Peacocks against each other in a rematch from earlier this season when the Tigers defeated the Peacocks 4-1 in Fayette. The match is set to begin on Thursday evening (Oct. 26) at 5 p.m. The second conference matchup this weekend features the Tigers and Lions in a rematch of the Tigers' 2-1 win in St. Charles three weeks ago. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday (Oct. 29). The Tigers would clinch at least a share of the MIAA title with two wins over the weekend.
 
The Tigers continue to score goals at an efficient pace this season, averaging 2.33 goals per match. The Tigers rank 9th in Division II in total assists (32), 16th in assists per match (2.13), 18th in total points (102), 19th in total goals (35) and 29th in scoring offense. The Tigers also lead the conference in assists per match, total assists, total points and total goals.
 
Derick Gonzalez continues to be the consistent leader on this year's squad as he leads the team in goals (eight), assists (11), points (27), shots (34) and corner kicks (24). He ranks first in the conference in these four categories as well. Abdoulaye Cisse has seven goals and leads the Tigers in shots on goal (21) and ranks second in the MIAA in total assists with six.
 
Upper Iowa enters the match on Thursday with a 5-8 overall record and a 0-5 mark in the MIAA. The Peacocks are led offensively by Ruairidh Crawford as he leads them in goals (five) and total points (12). The Peacocks rank second in the conference in saves per game (six). Connor Rortvedt ranks second in the conference in saves per match at a 5.54 clip.
 
Lindenwood carries an 8-6 overall record and a 3-2 conference record into the match in Hays on Sunday. The Lions main offensive threat is Michele Ganz, who leads the MIAA in goals scored with 11. He also leads the team in points (25), shots (40) and shots on goal (24). His four game-winning goals and three penalty kicks made both lead the conference. Goalkeeper Tim Licht leads the conference in goals against average (.822).
