UConn Outlasts Women's Basketball in Exhibition Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team got an up-close look at the top women's basketball program in the nation Wednesday evening (Nov. 1), dropping an exhibition game against Connecticut, 82-37.
 
Kacey Kennett led the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting, knocking down four shots from behind the arc. Tatyana Legette came away with 10 rebounds, adding five points and one assist on the offensive end. In total, 13 different Tigers saw the floor inside the XL Center.
 
The Huskies used their significant size advantage to dominate in the paint, scoring 48 of their points from right under the rim while blocking 12 shots and holding FHSU to 12 points in the paint. UConn finished the game 36-for-75 from the floor (48.0 percent) while holding the Tigers to a 24.6 shooting percentage (14-of-57).
 
The Tigers were held to just six points in the opening quarter before adding 10 in the second period, going into the locker room trailing 44-16. FHSU had its most efficient frame in the third quarter, sinking 5-of-15 attempts and tallying 14 points.
 
UConn's Kia Nurse led all scorers with 19 points while adding four assists and four steals.

The Tigers will wrap up their preseason next week when they travel to Manhattan, Kan. to face off with Kansas State on Monday (Nov. 6) at 7:05 p.m.
