Griffons Handle Tiger Volleyball, 3-0

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team was unable to keep pace with Missouri Western Friday evening (Nov. 10), falling to the Griffons in straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-20). The Tigers dip to 11-22 overall and 2-15 in the MIAA with the loss, while the Griffons are now 21-9 this season and 15-2 in conference action. MWSU now has the opportunity to secure a share of the MIAA regular season championship against Nebraska-Kearney Saturday.

The Griffons won the match with a .242 attack rate while limiting FHSU to a .138 attack percentage. Logan Wallick led the Tigers with nine kills while Callie Christensen added eight kills and five blocks. The senior posted a match-high .533 swing rate after making zero errors on 15 swings. Taylor White led the match with 21 digs while Becca Page and Amirah Bentley both tossed up 15 assists.

Fort Hays State's first lead in the match came in the third set after a kill from Morgan West, a block from Christensen and Kylie Rollman and a Tatum Bartels service ace put the Tigers in front, 3-1. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the set, with the Tigers leading as late as 15-14 thanks to a kill from Wallick. A kill from Bartels later tied things up at 17 before MWSU scored the next four points to go in front 21-17. The Tigers closed within two late in the set, 22-20, but the Griffons held on to complete the sweep after taking the final three points of the match.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 11) when they travel to Maryville, Mo. to take on Northwest Missouri State at 3 p.m.
