WARRENSBURG, Mo. – For the second-consecutive season, the Fort Hays State women's soccer team was knocked out of the MIAA tournament in the conference semifinals as they fell to No. 1 Central Missouri 3-0 in Warrensburg. The Tigers drop to 10-6-4 on the year while ending conference play with a 7-3-1 record. With the win, the Jennies advance to the MIAA Championship match on Sunday and continue their undefeated mark at 20-0 on the year.
The Jennies were quick to get on the board as Baylie Edwards netted her 11
th goal of the season as she hit the back of the net unassisted. This goal came just under nine minutes into the match to take the 1-0 lead early. Just over 13 minutes later, Central Missouri would capitalize again as Kayla Hamner brought in the pass from Abby Rhodes on the left wing and hit the high right corner of the net past
Kristen Thompson to go up 2-0. The final goal of the match would come at the 30 minutes mark by Makayla Toth as she earned her ninth goal of the season from an assist by Jada Scott. This would be the eventual final score of 3-0 in the match. The Tigers held the Jennies scoreless in the final 45 minutes, but took the 3-0 shutout to be eliminated from the MIAA tournament.
The Tigers were limited to only three shots in the match with
Darby Hirsch,
Savannah McClease and
Kylie Thomas each attempting one. The Jennies earned 18 with 11 coming in the first half and seven in the closing 45 minutes. Edwards and Rhodes led all players with a match-high four shot attempts on the afternoon.
Ana Dilkes for Central Missouri remains undefeated in net now boasting a 20-0 record. Dilkes only captured one save on the afternoon from the three shots faced. Now with 65 saves, Dilkes took the win to help her team remain in contention for the MIAA championship.
Kristen Thompson for Fort Hays State takes the loss to fall to 6-4-2 in her senior campaign. Thompson collected three saves against the Jennies to bring her season total to 49.
The Tigers will now await their fate in the NCAA National Tournament when the Women's Soccer Selection Show takes place Monday, November 6 at 5 p.m. CST.
