HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State men's soccer team produced yet another shutout victory on Saturday (Nov. 4), this time defeating the University of Mary 2-0. The Tigers finish the regular season with an 11-5-2 overall record and a 7-1 record in the MIAA. The Marauders fell to 6-8-1 on the season with the loss.
The Tigers were off to a hot start in the match as

Brian Ness in the middle of the field for a Tiger goal just 39 seconds into the game. Fort Hays State quickly found themselves up 1-0 in the match.
The rest of the first period consisted of a back-and-forth defensive battle as the Tigers outshot the Marauders 8-1 in the first half. The Tigers took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half seemed to be much of the same as the first until
Derick Gonzalez found the back of the net on a strike from 30 yards out in the 53
rd minute. Gonzalez netted his tenth goal of the season and extended his program record of consecutive matches tallying a point to 15 straight matches.
The 2-0 score would hold until the end as the Tigers outshot the Marauders 20-5 for the match. Fort Hays State was able to have more scoring opportunities with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Alex Rodela earned the victory in goal tonight for the Tigers, improving his overall record to 3-1 on the season.
The Tigers will now await it's fate in the NCAA Tournament, with the bracket set to be announced on Monday evening.
