No. 15 Tigers Battle No. 2 Midwestern State Before Hosting Metro State This Weekend

The 15th-ranked Fort Hays State men's soccer team is coming off one of their most impressive victories in program history after upsetting No. 3 Rockhurst 4-2 on Sunday (Sept. 2). The Tigers continue their road trip with a duel against No. 2 Midwestern State in Shawnee, Okla. on Thursday (Sept. 6). The Tigers and Mustangs will kickoff at 5 p.m. from the campus of Oklahoma Baptist. FHSU then heads back home to host Metro State for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday (Sept. 9).
 
Junior defender Sergio Villalba produced the sixth hat trick in program history when he scored three goals against Rockhurst. He leads the team in points (seven), goals (three) and shots on goal (four). Forward Santiago Agudelo leads the squad in shots (seven). Goalkeeper Cullen Fisch has a 2-0-0 record in goal for the Tigers this season.

This will be the Tigers and Mustangs second meeting in their short history all-time. Midwestern State leads the all-time series 1-0. The Mustangs defeated the Tigers in 2017, 4-1, in a neutral site game in Claremore, Okla. Midwestern State was ranked sixth in the country at the time and proved why they were a strong team.
 
The Mustangs enter the contest 1-0 overall on the season after defeating UT-Tyler in the season opener, 2-0. MSU is coming off a 20-0-3 season in which the Mustangs were crowned the Heartland Conference champions with a 12-0-2 record. They made it all the way to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals before falling to Cal Poly Pomona on PK's. The Mustangs return five of their starters from last season, including top returner Carlos Flores who score five goals and totaled nine assists one year ago.

The Tigers welcome Metro State into FHSU Soccer Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 9) as the two squads meet up for the first time in history. The Roadrunners come into this week with a 1-1 overall record after defeating 15th-ranked St. Edwards on Sunday (Sept. 2). Metro State meets up with Regis before making the trip to Hays to take on the Tigers.
 
The Roadrunners return five starters from a year ago. Midfielder Yannick Schad led the team in assists (four) and points (12) last season, while ranking second on the team in goals (four) and converting 3-of-5 penalty kicks. James Tanner returns as the goalkeeper for the Roadrunners as he totaled 65 saves and compiled five shutouts in 2017.
