HAYS, Kan. - FHSU Women's Soccer played to a 1-1 draw with No. 6 ranked Emporia State on Friday night (Sept. 17) at FHSU Soccer Stadium. ESU struck first with a stick back goal off a saved penalty kick, but FHSU responded with a strike of their own midway through the second half. Neither team could find a golden goal in extra time, though both had decent chances.
In the 21st minute of action, the Tigers were called for a foul inside the box which set up Hannah Woolery of ESU for a penalty kick. The initial penalty kick was saved by keeper Deonna Wellbrock, but Woolery collected the carom and put the ball in the net on her second strike. The Tigers responded in the 63rd minute as Amanda Rapuduski took a pass from Emily Hutchings outside the box and shot it out of the keeper's reach. It was Rapuduski's second goal of the season, the most goals scored on the team by an individual so far.
The Hornets were slightly more active on offense as they outshot the Tigers 18-15. Keeper Deonna Wellbrock ended the match with eight saves compared to six saves collectively for both ESU keepers that played in the match. Tori Bailey, who entered the match in the second half for ESU, was responsible for the goal allowed to FHSU.
The Tigers moved to 2-1-2 on the season and ESU is still unbeaten at 4-0-1. The Tigers will be back at home on Sunday (Sept. 19) as the Lopers from Nebraska-Kearney come to town for a 1 p.m. kickoff in another non-conference in-region game against a conference opponent.
