The FHSU men's soccer team will twice make the eastward drive to Kansas City, Mo. this week for a pair of non-conference matches. The Tigers will first take on No. 6 Maryville at Swope Soccer Village on Wednesday (Sept. 8) for a neutral-site match before returning on Sunday (Sept. 12) for a true road match at Rockhurst. Both contests are scheduled to kick at 3 p.m.
The Tigers have a 1-1 record going into this week after securing a 1-0 victory over MSU-Denver on Sunday. Eleuterio Gutierrez and Theo Bennetts lead the Tigers in scoring with one goal each.
Maryville has compiled a 2-0 record so far, including a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 Lynn University. The Saints moved up to No. 6 in the latest Top 25 poll on Tuesday (Sept. 7). They have scored four goals in two matches and allowed one in each match. Rockhurst currently sits at 0-2, with both losses coming against Top 25 teams. They have taken eleven shots in two games and have put seven of those on target.
This will be the second meeting all-time between FHSU and Maryville, with the last meeting in 2019 ending in a 3-0 Maryville win in Kansas City. The Tigers will face off with Rockhurst for the seventh time with the series record tied at 2-2-2. The Tigers have won the last two meetings, 3-0 in Hays in 2019 and 4-2 in Kansas City in 2018.
