The Fort Hays State men's soccer team goes on the road this week to Wichita Falls, Texas for the MSU Classic. The Tigers will face the host team, Midwestern State, on Thursday (Sept. 8) at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Texas A&M-International on Saturday (Sept. 10) with kickoff scheduled at 1 p.m. The match with Midwestern State will be a Top 25 matchup. The Tigers are ranked No. 12 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25, while the Mustangs are No. 6.
Fort Hays State (2-1-1) is fresh off of a 2-0 win over MSU Denver last weekend. The Tigers have five goals this season and have produced a .484 shots on goal percentage. Tre Smith and Callum Frogson lead the Tigers in scoring with two goals apiece. Kieran Brown has 18 saves between the posts for the Tigers this season.
Midwestern State (3-0) defeated Rogers State 2-0 in their most recent match. The Mustangs are averaging three goals per match with a .686 shots on goal percentage and have held opponents to only two goals so far this season. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 2-0 with the Tigers, winning the most recent match 2-1 during the 2018 season in Shawnee, Okla. This will be the first time that coach Gerry Cleary will lead the Tigers against the Mustangs.
Texas A&M-International (1-2) picked up their first win if the season 1-0 over the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in their most recent match. The Dustdevils scored a pair of goals in their first three contests and have managed a .625 shots on goal percentage. The all-time series leans 2-1 in favor of TAMIU after defeating FHSU 1-0 last season at the MSU Classic. The Dustdevils will face Southern Nazarene on Thursday before taking on the Tigers Saturday.
