Men's Soccer Prepare for Last Conference Matches

Fort Hays State Men's Soccer is gearing up for their last week in regular season play. The Tigers play in their last home match this Thursday (Nov. 2) at 6 p.m. against GAC-leading Southern Nazarene and then hit the road Saturday (Nov. 4) to Warrensburg to face Rogers State at 1 p.m. In the newest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, Fort Hays State and Rogers State are receiving votes, while Southern Nazarene is No. 17 in the poll. The Tigers are currently holding the second spot in the GAC standings with an overall record of 7-6-2 and conference record of 6-2-2. 
 
The Tigers enter Thursday's contest on a three-match win streak. Their recent matches against OBU, Harding, and ranked Northeastern State all ended in multiple score victories, scoring 12 goals in just three games. The Tigers have been starting games aggressively, scoring goals in the first half of the past three games. Leading the charge in the scoring department is graduate student Blake Arndt, who is currently fifth in the GAC with eight goals. Elias Ovelar Semeniuk now has seven goals on the year in just 12 games this season. Ovelar Semeniuk has brought aggressiveness offensively when on the pitch, ranked third in the GAC averaging 2.92 shots per game. Pablo Orozco now has six assists this season, tied for third in the conference and leads the Tigers.  
 
On the opposing side, nationally ranked Southern Nazarene comes into Thursday's matchup with a season record of 11-3-2 (9-1 GAC). The Crimson Storm are coming off two multiple goal victories against OBU and Harding. Unaiz Shajani has a GAC-leading 12 goals on the season and notched six assists so far. Bruno Ferrreira leads the team in assists with 10 and has nine goals this season. In goal is freshman Andrej Krivokapic who has 52 saves on the season, starting all matches. Historically, FHSU has a 12-5 record against SNU, but lost 2-0 in Bethany earlier this season.  
 
As for Saturday's match, the Tigers go on the road to face the Hillcats of Rogers State. The Hillcats are 9-5-2 (6-4 GAC) and are right behind the Tigers in the standings. Last week, Rogers State faced off against OBU and Harding, going 1-1 in the stretch. The Hillcats face off against the Newman Jets on Thursday (Nov. 2) before facing the Tigers Saturday (Nov.4). Marcos Vasallo leads the Hillcats in scoring with 10 goals on the season. Right behind him with five goals is George Robinson, who had a hat-trick in a match against the Tigers earlier this year. FHSU leads the series with an all-time record of 4-3-5, but came up short earlier this season.
