Men’s Soccer Plays Early Week Match at Newman, Hosts Rogers State Saturday

The Fort Hays State Men's Soccer team is gearing up for an exciting week of matchups. The Tigers head to Wichita to face Newman University on Tuesday (Oct. 10) at 7 p.m. They come back home to play against nationally ranked Rogers State University Saturday (Oct. 14) at 6 p.m.

The Tigers go into Tuesday's match 3-5-2 overall and a GAC record of 2-1-2. In their recent outing at Northeastern State this past Saturday, the Tigers battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw. Currently, the Tigers occupy the third spot in the conference standings, trailing only Southern Nazarene and Rogers State.

Fort Hays State has netted 14 goals in its 10 matches this season. The Tigers maintain an average of 14.70 shots per game, ranking fourth in the GAC, with a shots-on-goal percentage of .401. Blake Arndt continues to lead the team in scoring, tied for fourth in the GAC with four goals this season. Pablo Orozco tops the assists chart for the Tigers with three, two of which were notched in the last game, placing him tied for fifth in the GAC. The team has collectively contributed a total of 13 assists, distributed among 10 different players.

Newman, with a record of 2-5-3 (1-3-1 GAC), recently faced Northeastern State resulting in a narrow 1-0 loss on its home turf. The Jets have a potent offensive threat in Carlos Bellosta Manchon, the conference leader in goals with nine. Alberto Romano leads the GAC in shots and ranks third in total assists. However, the Jets have faced defensive challenges, conceding 23 goals in 10 matches. In their head-to-head history, the Tigers lead with a commanding 9-2 record, securing a 2-0 victory in their previous encounter a few weeks ago in Hays.

Rogers State, currently second in the GAC at 7-2-2 (4-1 GAC), presents a formidable opponent for the Tigers. Before facing Fort Hays State, they will clash with conference leading Southern Nazarene in a matchup of nationally ranked teams. Marcos Vasallo leads the charge for the Hillcats with eight goals this season, currently tied for second in the GAC. Rogers State boasts a robust defense, having conceded only 10 goals with three shutouts. Their ability to move the ball effectively is evident, with three players each contributing four assists.

Live video and stats will be available for both contests.
