HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis dropped their first home match of the spring season to No. 28 ranked Central Oklahoma by a score of 6-1 on Saturday (April 1).
Grace Unruh picked up the lone win for the Tigers at the No. 6 position in singles play.

The Bronchos swept the Tigers in the three doubles matches to collect the first point in the competition, but Fort Hays State put together a great battle at the No. 1 position.
Irina Alfonso and
Maria Paz Diaz were on the verge of victory in doubles play against the No. 3Â ranked doubles team in the nation with a match point, but the Bronchos were able to rally late to claim a 7-5 victory.

Alfonso (No. 1) was also close to closing out a win in singles play, but fell in the tiebreaker set 10-8.
Stefany Stemmer (No. 2) won a total of seven games in her match with scores of 6-3, 6-4 against the No. 50 ranked singles player.
Fiorella Mendez won 10 games in her two sets at the No. 3 singles spot, falling 7-5 in both sets. Paz Diaz (No. 4) and
Kylie Aufdengarten (No. 5) were upended in straight sets.

Grace Unruh (No. 6) was able to edge her opponent 10-4 in a tiebreaking set to bring home a win for Fort Hays State. Unruh took set one of her match by a score of 6-2 then was beat by the same score in set two. Unruh powered through in the tiebreak set with the six-point win.

The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday (April 2) morning against the Riverhawks of Northeastern State at home in Hays. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m.
