Men’s Soccer Hosts Hillcats and RiverHawks During Homecoming Week

Fort Hays State Men's Soccer is gearing up for a crucial set of conference contests at home this week. The No. 21 ranked Tigers host Rogers State on Thursday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m., followed by a clash against Northeastern State on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m. 
 
The Tigers head into Thursday's matchup with a 3-2-1 overall record, including an 0-1 mark in conference play. Fort Hays State has showcased strong offensive play, tallying 12 goals across six matches, while maintaining an impressive 37.9% shots-on-goal rate. Freshman Bastian Carlman leads the charge with three goals, placing him in a tie for fourth in the GAC. Elias Ovelar Semeniuk and Anders Sandsto have each netted two goals. Meanwhile, Tadgh Walsh has been exceptional in the midfield, tying for the national lead in assists with seven, averaging 1.17 per match. As a team, the Tigers average 2.0 assists per match, ranking 22nd nationally. The Tiger defense has been strong as well, holding opponents to just 8.5 total shots per game.
 
Rogers State enters the matchup with a 2-4-2 overall record, including a perfect 2-0 start in GAC play. The Hillcats are riding the momentum of back-to-back home victories over Ouachita Baptist and Harding, both won by multiple goals. Offensively, Marcos Vasallo has been the team's key player, contributing three goals and two assists. Defensively, the Hillcats have allowed 99 shots while taking 91 of their own, limiting opponents to an average of 12.4 shots per game. Historically, Rogers State holds a slight edge in the series 5-4-5, winning the last four meetings. The Tigers are looking for their first win over the Hillcats since 2021.
 
Northeastern State enters the week with a 2-3-3 record, also with a 2-0 start in GAC play, following wins over Harding and Ouachita Baptist in Tahlequah. Before facing the Tigers, the RiverHawks will travel to Wichita for a Thursday (Oct. 3) match with Newman. NSU has 10 goals this season on 124 shots, ranking second in the GAC for shot attempts, while conceding 11 goals. Kei Nagakura leads the RiverHawks offensively with three goals. Historically, the Tigers hold a 16-9-7 advantage in the series. FHSU is 5-0-2 in the last seven meetings with NSU. The RiverHawks' last win over the Tigers was in spring of 2021 during the COVID-shortened season.
