HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State and No. 20 ranked Missouri Western played to a scoreless draw at FHSU Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 20). The Tigers became the first team to hold the Griffons scoreless in a match this season. FHSU moved to 6-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the MIAA. Missouri Western went to 12-0-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the MIAA.
On a breezy day in Hays, shots were hard to come by in the first half with the Griffons holding a slight 4-3 edge. MWSU widened their advantage in shots in the second half, holding an 11-4 margin by the end of the match.
Mackenzie Caldwell saved all three shot attempts the Griffons put on goal, while Keeley Kroonenberg needed to make just one save on the opposing side. The Griffons had all five corner kicks taken in the match.
Allison Worley had two of the four shots taken by the Tigers, while
Sydney Cotter and
Taylor Hill each took one.
The Tigers gained a point in the MIAA standings, moving to sole possession of sixth place with four matches to play. The Tigers wrap up home regular season contests next Sunday (Oct. 27) with a 2 p.m. match against Washburn.
