The No. 13 ranked Fort Hays State men's soccer team is set for its first conference road trip of the season. The Tigers, now 5-0-2 overall and 1-0 in GAC play, face a pair of challenging opponents this week. They open against No. 8 Rogers State (6-0-2, 2-0-0 GAC) on Thursday, October 2, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Southern Nazarene (4-2-1, 2-0-0 GAC) on Saturday, October 4, at 3 p.m.
Fort Hays State climbed four spots in the latest national rankings following a dominant 5-1 victory over Northeastern State in its conference opener. The Tigers continue to excel offensively, ranking fourth in NCAA Division II in scoring at 2.86 goals per match. Their 20 goals this season leads the GAC. Individually,
Elias Ovelar Semeniuk leads the Tigers with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists).
Mario Leal Vales leads the team in assists with four.
Payton Roehrich has a .913 save percentage and 0.33 goals against average for the season. FHSU as a team has five shutouts this season.
Rogers State also rose in this week's national poll, moving up three spots to No. 8. The Hillcats are unbeaten at 6-0-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, coming off back-to-back road wins in Arkansas. In the most recent meeting between the two programs, the Tigers edged Rogers State in a penalty shootout, 7-6 in the 2024 GAC Tournament Semifinals. The Hillcats hold a 6-4-7 advantage in the all-time series and are led this season by Brandon O'Rourke, Noah Preston-Watkins, and Grayson Horsley, who each have two goals. As a team, the Hillcats have six shutouts this season.
Southern Nazarene enters the weekend 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in GAC competition, also fresh off a successful road swing in Arkansas with victories over Harding and Ouachita Baptist. Tiago Moreira leads the Crimson Storm with three goals this season. The last meeting between the two sides came in the 2024 GAC Tournament Final, where Fort Hays State secured a 2-1 win on SNU's home field. FHSU leads the all-time series 14-6-1.
