WICHITA, Kan. — Fort Hays State Women's Soccer picked up its first MIAA win of the season on Sunday (Oct. 12) at Wilkins Field. The Tigers defeated Newman University by a score of 3-0.
Berkley Sparks put the Tigers on top in the first half and
Taylor Hill added a pair of goals late to secure the win. FHSU is now 3-7-1 overall, 1-4-1 in the MIAA, while Newman dropped to 1-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the MIAA.
Berkley Sparks scored the lone goal of the first half in the 35th minute just outside the top of the box off a touch forward from
Chaley French. Fort Hays St. outshot Newman 5-3 in the opening half.
The Tigers pulled away in a three-minute span between the 79
th and 82
nd minutes with two goals from
Taylor Hill.
Sydney Cotter and Sparks picked up assists to Hill for the goals. Both teams took five shots in the second half and FHSU held a 10-8 advantage in the final count.
Hadley Ostrander secured her fourth shutout of the season by making four saves.
Fort Hays State extended its perfect all-time record against Newman to 8-0.
Fort Hays State travels to Maryville, Mo., to face Northwest Missouri State on Friday (Oct. 17). The match is set for 3 p.m.
