Tigers Defeat Coyotes in Fall Home Finale

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 3-2 overall for the 2025-26 season with a 6-1 win over Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 2) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The Tigers swept doubles play and took five of the six singles matches for the win. It was Kansas Wesleyan's first head-to-head team competition of the season.

The Tigers cruised in doubles play by yielding no more than two points in each of the three contests. Molly Gaddis and Bethan Gill scored a 6-1 win at the No. 1 position, while the No. 2 team of Ines Latorre and Yone Pereiro and No. 3 team of Janae Montoya and Ines Steeman each won 6-2.

Four of FHSU's five wins in singles were by straight sets. Gill had the most dominant performance at No. 3, shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Steeman was consistent at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Latorre at No. 4 nearly had the same results, winning 6-3 and 6-2. Montoya took the No. 5 match 6-1, 7-5. Gaddis had to go to a third set to win her match, a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) result. Pereiro was the only Tiger who came up short in a three-set match at No. 1, falling to Hayden Bellamny 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
