HAYS, Kan. — Fort Hays State fell 1-0 to Northeastern State on Friday (Oct. 31) at FHSU Soccer Stadium, despite outshooting the visitors 18-11. NSU moved to 9-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the MIAA, while FHSU moved to 3-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the MIAA.
Northeastern State seized an early opportunity with a corner kick in the 25th minute when Olivia Burnes headed in the only goal of the match off a corner kick by Hannah Anderson. The Tigers had several great opportunities to score, including a frenzy where NSU had to make two team saves in a sequence to stay in the lead.
Rebecca Partyka, goalkeeper for NSU, was up to the challenge from the Tigers all throughout the night, recording eight saves in the match. One of her biggest saves was a penalty kick opportunity for the Tigers in the 39
th minute. She made four saves in each half to keep her team in the lead.
FHSU reeled off 10 first-half shots and eight second-half shots.
Sydney Cotter led the Tigers with six shots, while
Taylor Hill added three. Burnes, the goal scorer for NSU, put all three of her shots on target.
Hadley Ostrander of FHSU recorded four saves in the match.
The Tigers will host Rogers State on Sunday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
