Fort Hays State will jump right back into action on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 25) with a noon game against Sterling College at Gross Memorial Coliseum. This game will be the annual Youth Day event as students, teachers, staff, and administration from USD 489, Holy Family Elementary, TMP Jr. High School, and surrounding towns visit the coliseum to cheer on the Tigers. FHSU enters at 3-1 overall, while Sterling is 4-3.
 
The Tigers are fresh off a 74-53 win over Bethel College on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers had two 20-point scorers in that contest, Dan Mukuna with 22 and Kyle Grill with 21. Grill tied his career high in rebounds with 11 to finish with a double-double. Muhamed Kante scored 13, which was a new high for him as a Tiger.
 
Fort Hays State holds a 52-9 advantage in the all-time series with Sterling. The teams last met in 2019-20, when FHSU won 106-57. FHSU has won 16-straight meetings with Sterling going back to 1982-83.
 
Mukuna leads the way in scoring for the Tigers at 19.8 points per game, while adding 8.5 rebounds per game. Kyle Grill is adding 13.5 points per game and Jahvari Martino is still averaging double figures at 10.3 per game. Lucas Hammeke leads the Tigers in assists at 5.0 per game.
 
On Monday, Mukuna was named the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for averaging 28.0 points and 11.5 rebounds last week. It is the first time he has received the honor as a Tiger.
 
Fort Hays State has held its opponents under 60 points in all three of its wins so far this season. The Tigers are yielding right at 60 points per game on average, which currently ranks seventh-best in NCAA Division II for the young season. The Tigers were the national leader in scoring defense each of the last two years.
