HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball rolled to a 92-44 win over Manhattan Christian on Saturday (Nov. 29) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers moved to 5-1 overall with the win, their largest of the season. The Tigers scored a season high in points, while also allowing their fewest points to an opponent so far this season.
Fort Hays State led from start to finish, racing out to a 10-0 lead until a Manhattan Christian free throw broke up the run. The lead went past 20 points at the 11:18 mark of the first half when Kyle Gill hit a 3-point field goal. A 27-point halftime lead was FHSU's largest of the first half after
Dan Mukuna tipped in a ball just before the horn to make the score 52-25.
The lead climbed past 30 within the first two minutes of the second half. The Tigers held the Thunder scoreless for nearly six minutes to start the second frame and eventually went up by 40 with 10:48 to go. The Tigers produced their largest lead of the game, 52 points, on a Tegan Curley basket with just over three minutes remaining. A basket by the Thunder with 27 seconds remaining brought the final margin back inside of 50.
Mukuna led the Tigers with 18 points, while Grill added 13 and
Juju Ramirez had 10. All 13 Tigers that suited for the game played and scored. Grill led in rebounds with eight, while
Lucas Hammeke dished out four assists and
Muhamed Kante recorded four steals. The Tigers outshot the Thunder 55.9 percent overall to 28 percent. FHSU had 18 more rebounds had just nine turnovers compared to 23 for MCC.
Trayden Chambers led Manhattan Christian with 12 points off the bench. FHSU held the MCC starting five to just 10 points. Tatum Pierce had four rebounds and Jordan Carter had four assists.
Fort Hays State begins MIAA play next week on Thursday evening (Dec. 4) at Central Missouri. The trip will continue with a game at nationally ranked Washburn on Saturday (Dec. 6).
