Tigers Wrap 2025 Season in 2-2 Draw with Nebraska-Kearney

HAYS, Kan. — Fort Hays State played to a 2-2 draw with Nebraska-Kearney in its final match of the 2025 season on Wednesday night (Nov. 6) at FHSU Soccer Stadium. All four goals occurred in the first half. The Tigers wrapped the season at 3-11-3 overall and 1-8-3 in the MIAA. The Lopers finished their year at 3-9-5 overall and 1-6-5 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State rallied from an early two-goal deficit to get the match tied by halftime. UNK scored goals in the 2nd and 20th minutes, off crossing passes into the box. Fort Hays State responded with increased offensive pressure, earning six corner kicks and registering nine shots in the first half.

Isabelle Mull scored her first goal of the season when she put a strike on a loose ball in the box. The shot glanced off a defender just enough to redirect past the keeper in the 30th minute. Sydney Cotter equalized the match with a goal in the 44th minute when she put a glance on a ball crossed into the box by Makenzie Hood. It gave Cotter her seventh goal of the season, which led the Tigers in 2025.

Shots were a bit harder to come by for both teams in the second half, FHSU finishing with three shots after halftime compared to one for UNK. The Tigers outshot the Lopers 12-5 in the match.

Defensively, Hadley Ostrander made a crucial save in the final seconds against Mia Lang to preserve the draw. She had three saves overall in the match, while UNK keeper Susie Bovaird had two.
