Tigers Climb to No. 6 in WBCA Poll

LILBURN, Ga. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team moved up another spot in this week's WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll released Tuesday (Dec. 23), with the Tigers now slotted sixth.

Entering the holiday break 10-1 overall, the Tigers collected 446 points in the voting process this week, up from 435 last week. Defending national champion Grand Valley State remains a unanimous pick atop the poll, while Central Region rival Minnesota State-Mankato holds steady in the No. 2 spot. One other MIAA team is listed in this week's poll, with Pittsburg State now slotted No. 13.

This is the 10th time the Tigers have been ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II coaches poll and the first since FHSU was in the No. 6 spot twice last season. FHSU is 13-3 when ranked sixth, 195-49 overall when ranked and 141-29 when slotted inside the top 10. The Tigers have now been ranked 127 times in the team's DII era, including 86 appearances inside the top 10.

Fort Hays State has been inside the top 10 each week this season, occupying six of the top 10 spots so far this year. FHSU opened the year ninth in the preseason before moving to No. 3 in the first regular season release. The Tigers then dipped to No. 4, then No. 8 and finally No. 7 before climbing to sixth this week.

The Tigers will return to action on New Year's Day when they host Northwest Missouri State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
